Timeshare Ownership

Timeshare ownership is pitched by timeshare retailers and resellers alike as very similar to home ownership. However, there are hardly any similarities between the two at all. Owning a timeshare provides a mere fraction of the benefits and a substantial increase in the number of drawback when compared to owning a home. They will also make it seem easy to sell a timeshare when in reality it is nearly impossible.

Buying a timeshare differs from buying a home in many ways. First, and most importantly, timeshare owners do not actually own the property that they spend tens of thousands of dollars on at all. Instead they own a very small fraction of the property, hence the term fractional ownership. Typically speaking, if you buy a timeshare, you own about a 1/51 share of the rental property because there are 52 weeks in the year, but timeshare companies will use one week out of each year to do routine maintenance, which appears at the annual timeshare maintenance fee. So with timeshare ownership, you are actually in ownership of nothing at all, just rights and privileges to use a facility for that time period you purchased.

As a matter of fact, if you wanted to modify your real estate in any way, shape or form, you would most likely be charged a substantial fee by the real owners of the land — the people who “sold” it to you. You cannot touch-up or remodel the place in any way, even if it would raise the value of the place. Is there really any clearer an indication that you actually own nothing when you own a timeshare?

Another problem with buying a timeshare are all the timeshare laws that you have to deal with. For example, when you want to buy a time share in another country, there is a substantial amount of bureaucratic red tape that must be waved through first. More often than not, it is actually illegal to own land in a country that you do not possess citizenship in, so that is the first thing to be cautious of because timeshare sellers will not tell you that that’s true.

This is a large part of the reason why it is so hard to get out of timeshare contracts when you, yourself, begin to realize all these things. Almost every timeshare owner is currently trying to get rid of their timeshare, or even donate timeshare property, and unable to do so with the inundated timeshare market. But much like they are portrayed all across the media, timeshares are not really anything, which is why it is so easy to just list it on Craigslist or Ebay. As a matter of fact, people are so uninterested in buying timeshares currently that you can’t even donate your timeshare to a charity. To reiterate, you cannot even give your timeshare away for free, that should be a very clear indication that timeshare ownership is not something that you would want right now, especially considering today’s relentless economy.

It is common for those who regret their purchase of a timeshare to look into selling a timeshare. Although there are sites on the internet that offer listing services, they often don’t actually sell timeshares. Instead they will charge extra fees to post your timeshare and they won’t ever actually find a buyer. At this point you may be thinking “I’ll never sell my timeshare!” or “I want to sell my timeshare now!” If you search for the term sell my timeshares on the internet you will most likely find one of those listing sites that won’t actually produce the results you want. Timeshare relief is a better option for those who miss their rescission period and wish to get out of their timeshare contracts. Timeshare relief produces results without causing you additional stress.

Timeshare ownership would be better called timeshare renting, but with the costs of buying a timeshare. It is often reported on different complaint boards across the internet that certain popular resorts, as big as Marriot or Westin, that they are selling their condos or rooms for an even cheaper amount to random people coming into the resorts off the street than to the long-term timeshare owners. Many timeshare resorts have been investigated for such dishonest practices, as well as for offering locations that are advertised as only available to timeshare owners on the internet to anyone on a first come, first serve basis, lowering the value of the timeshare even further.

If you are a timeshare owner who is interested in selling a timeshare, but know enough about the industry to know that timeshare resale is almost always a huge scam operation, consider using Timeshare Relief; a company that never collects upfront fees and only tells its users they can get rid of their timeshare for them when they are certain. Timeshare Relief is one of the most trusted timeshare transfer companies in the industry.
